Founded on October 3, 1887, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a public, historically Black university. What distinguishes FAMU from other universities is its legacy of providing access to a high quality, affordable education with programs and services that guide students toward successfully achieving their dreams. FAMU is part of the State University System of Florida and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Also an 1890 land-grant institution dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, resolution of complex issues and the empowerment of citizens and communities. 

FAMU offers 54 bachelor’s degrees, 29 master’s degrees, 3 professional degrees and 12 doctoral degrees. 

Florida A&M University (FAMU) is a Public institution located in the Panhandle region of Florida. FAMU has Regional Accreditation and is affiliated with Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

FAMU participates in a range of federal and state aid programs. More than 90 percent of our students receive some form of assistance. The Office of Financial Aid would like to encourage all students to apply for financial assistance. If you have not done so, go online now to complete your Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority filing date for Florida A&M University is January 1st.  All students receiving financial aid are responsible for keeping track of their aid file and awards through iRattler, including providing information still needed to complete their financial aid file. Use your "iRattler" and review your Student Financial Planning (SFP) page to find out if your financial aid file is complete or if you have outstanding requirements that will prevent the disbursement of your financial aid.

We encourage you to apply for admission to FAMU. Please be sure to submit all required documents. Required documents include official transcript(s), SAT or ACT scores, application, two letters of recommendations and application fee.  Admissions has a competitive application process.

The Undergraduate Student Success Center supports student recruitment, retention, progression, and graduation through programming aimed at promoting student learning and assisting students in the establishment of critical thinking skills conducive to the core values of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Non-Traditional Student

Academic coaches are support staff trained in evidence-based strategies to facilitate each session. The academic coach works to empower the student towards positive behavior change and improved academic performance. Students typically meet with an academic coach weekly throughout the duration of the semester by an appointment-based system. The goal of coaching is to promote an individual's self-efficacy and confidence during their time at Florida A&M University. Additional Information
FAMU students with previous university credits must submit official transcripts from all accredited institutions attended. Students are required to have an overall grade point average of at least a 2.0 and if attended more than one institution the grade point average must be at least 2.0 from the last institution attended. Some academic departments require a re-evaluation of returning students prior to being readmitted.
