Lake–Sumter State College is committed to making higher education both affordable and accessible for the communities it serves. With tuition rates consistently among the lowest in the country, LSSC provides high-quality academic and workforce programs at a cost that minimizes financial burden for students and families. To further support affordability, the College offers a wide range of financial aid options, including federal and state grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and flexible payment plans. Dedicated financial aid professionals work closely with students to navigate the application process, maximize available resources, and reduce out-of-pocket costs. Through these combined efforts, LSSC ensures that financial barriers are minimized so students can focus on achieving their educational and career goals.

Lake-Sumter State College offers a variety of scholarships to students.

General eligibility criteria include a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, enrollment in at least 6 hours, degree-seeking status, and financial need, unless otherwise noted. These scholarships have limited funding; therefore, every student who meets the general eligibility criteria may not receive a scholarship. Students are limited to receiving one institutional scholarship and will receive the one with the highest dollar value.

Through the generosity of Lake-Sumter State College supporters, the Foundation awards more than $1.8 million in scholarships each year to LSSC students. The amount and number awarded vary from year to year based on available funding.

Transfer of credit is the act of awarding credit at LSSC for coursework taken at another institution, while in the military, through credit by examination, current articulation program agreements, approved industry certifications, or Competency Based Credit (Administrative Procedures 4-17 and 4-17). The purpose of awarding transfer credit for coursework or credit by examination is to allow students to proceed expeditiously toward their degree program. LSSC awards semester credits. Transfer quarter hours are converted to semester credits; one quarter credit equals two-thirds of a semester credit.

All students who have previously registered at any other post-secondary institution(s), regardless of the amount of time spent in attendance or credit earned, are classified as transfer students. Transfer students are required to submit official transcripts from all institutions for evaluation. All transcripts must be submitted within the first semester of the student's enrollment. When transcripts or test scores are submitted to the Registrar's Office, they will be evaluated, and credit may be awarded in accordance with institutional policies and the state of Florida's guidelines. Transfer of credit for career academies or institutional credit by examination, as listed on the transcripts of Florida-recognized institutions, will be evaluated and awarded directly by each institution.

Veterans and active duty military are required to submit official military transcripts (Joint Services Transcript (JST) or Air Force transcript) for admission to LSSC and transfer credit evaluation. LSSC's current tuition and fees can be found on the college’s website. For the 2026-27 academic years, the distance learning fees is $15/credit hour for online classes.

Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) offers many courses and some complete programs online through the Canvas online Learning Management System (LMS). LSSC policies and procedures regarding credit hours, academic integrity, attendance, and all other policies and procedures apply to all courses regardless of delivery mode.
