Northwest Florida State College serves a diverse student population, from recent high school graduates and dual enrollment students to adult learners, transfer students, military-affiliated students, and workforce students. The College also offers bachelor's degree programs and flexible options for online, part-time, and full-time study.

Students are served across multiple campuses and instructional sites throughout Okaloosa and Walton counties, as well as through fully online programs.

Admissions to general education programs are based on open admissions standards. Admission to workforce and other selective programs is based on selective criteria through a separate, nondiscriminatory application process. The college does not discriminate based on age, color, ethnicity, race, national origin, disability, marital status, pregnancy, religion, genetic information, sex, or any other legally protected classification in its educational programs or activities. 

NWF State College fees are designed to make college affordable for most students. The Financial Aid Office strives to remove financial barriers and increase access to higher education by administering Federal Aid, State Aid, and Institutional Scholarships. NWF State College awards more than 300 scholarships annually through the NWF Foundation. Most are renewable for a second year and average $1,000 per award. Opportunities are based on, but not limited to, specific majors, community service, financial need, unique backgrounds, and academic achievement. The College also offers institutional scholarships that support student participation in programs such as the Student Advisory Board, Forensics/Brain Bowl, the Student Ambassador Program, and many others. Northwest Florida State College offers broad access to higher education; however, certain admission criteria and deadlines apply to selective admission programs, including Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, Professional Pilot Technology, Radiography, and Welding. There are no specialized enrollment procedures for distance learning courses at NWF. Students enroll as they would in any other course. Find an online course - https://www.nwfsc.edu, click Class Search, select “Online” as the Instructional Method.

There is a $15 per credit hour fee for distance learning courses offered at NWF. Some online classes may include a proctored element and students might incur an additional charge if a remote proctoring service is used.

Northwest Florida State College offers students the convenience and flexibility of earning course credits through our online campus so students may take control of their own education by working and learning at times and places convenient to them. We offer fully online Bachelor's and Associate degrees, including an accredited online R.N. to B.S.N. Program (with a guided clinical component) for Florida-licensed Registered Nurses. The Raider Life office oversees the Student Advisory Board (SAB) and more than two dozen student organizations and programs to promote an understanding and appreciation of engagement. Raider Life’s mission is "to foster student engagement and retention, develop highly marketable leaders, and cultivate service learning and civic engagement."

Raider Life strives to engage all of our students in campus life and offer opportunities for learning, leadership, service, friendship, and fun. Raider Life is here to help all students get connected and find an organization that fits their interests.

Northwest Florida State College competes in four intercollegiate sports: men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, and softball. Raider Athletics has established a tradition of excellence at the conference, state, and national levels. The women's basketball program captured NJCAA Division I National Championships in 2020–21, 2022–23, and 2024–25, while the softball team claimed the 2024–25 NJCAA Division I National Championship. The men's basketball team won the 2021–22 NJCAA Division I National Championship, and the baseball team captured the 2022–23 Panhandle Conference Championship.
