For students, SCF understands that learning also takes place outside of the classroom and supports the inter-relatedness of academics and extracurricular activities. Scholarships

Scholarships can reward you for academic excellence, talent and achievement in a variety of areas, such as the arts or athletics. Scholarships are not always based on financial need. Best of all, they don't need to be repaid.  Scholarships include Florida Bright Futures Scholarships, SCF Foundation Scholarships, and a variety of scholarships to applicants meeting specific requirements. Criteria, amounts and application processes for scholarships vary depending on the scholarship. Most scholarships require an application and possibly an essay. You are encouraged to research and apply for all scholarships you may qualify for.   It is advisable to complete the FAFSA when applying for scholarships. You may be eligible for scholarships based on financial need.

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota follows an Open Admissions policy. Test scores and/or GPA are not factors in the admissions decision. A high school diploma or GED certificate is required.

Additional Information

A $20 admissions application fee will be assessed for applicants. When an applicant enrolls in courses for the term in which they indicated on their admissions application, the fee will be refunded to the applicant. To receive the refund, applicants must meet two qualifications: 1) Register for courses in their selected term of entry, as indicated on their application, and; 2) Maintain attendance and registration in the courses past the add/drop registration period. Failure to adhere to the above statements will result in the loss of the application fee.

Enrollment Procedures

Anyone wishing to attend SCF who has not taken courses before needs to apply to the college first. Visit www.scf.edu under the admissions tab for more information and to view our online schedule with our 160 online classes in 31 different programs. 

Distance Learning Fees

SCF Charges no additional fees for any online or blended course.  We are one of only 4 public colleges and universities in Florida that do not charge any fee for any distance learning class.

Additional Information

Online learning at SCF is offered in a variety of academic programs. The courses cover the same material as on-campus equivalents, but the work is completed through the use of a computer, without coming to campus. Online learning enables you to:

  • Take one or more online courses in combination with courses offered in a face-to-face environment to complete degree requirements.
  • Complete the majority of a degree in specific programs completely online.
  • Access class information and turn in assignments from home or work.
  • Have a direct connection to online instructors and advisors to assist you with your online course needs.

Returning Students (as of 2023)

There is no time better than now to complete your education. An associate degree boosts earnings by about 20 percent compared to a high school diploma and the unemployment rate is much lower.
Admissions/Re-Admissions Instructions
Welcome to SCF! Returning students who have not been in attendance for one year of more must apply for readmission and provide documentation regarding residency requirements to the Admissions Office.
Financial Aid
Applying for Financial Aid: 1. Apply for a PIN number from www.pin.ed.gov, and then complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Completing the FAFSA is important as it may qualify you for other aid.
Additional Information
Returning students are defined as students who last attended SCF two or more years ago (or applied for admission one or more years ago and never registered for classes). To be re-admitted, follow the steps below: 1. Complete the Returning/Re-admit admission application if you previously attended SCF (if you have not previously attended SCF, complete the transfer admission application) 2. Former students who have not been in attendance for one year or more must apply for readmission and provide all documentation regarding residency requirements to the admissions office. Students have the option of graduating under either the Catalog in effect at the time they re-enter the College, or the Catalog in effect at the time they complete requirements for a degree provided they maintain continuous enrollment of at least one credit per academic year.
