Established in 1925, University of Miami is a private not-for-profit research university with more than 17,000 students from around the world.

The University comprises three campuses (Coral Gables, Medical, and Marine) and 11 schools and colleges serving undergraduate and graduate students in more than 180 majors and programs.

There is a strong emphasis on mentorship during a student’s first year. For students who live on campus, Resident Assistants and First-Year Fellows support students living in each of the First-Year Residential Colleges. For students living off campus, first-year commuter students are connected to Commuter Assistants, and transfer students are connected to Transfer Assistants. 

The live-on experience combines the personal attention, support, and family-like atmosphere of a small college with the extensive resources of a major research university. In addition to our residential colleges, we have two apartment areas for upper-class students.

The University of Miami’s rich athletics tradition dates back to the school’s first classes in the fall of 1926. Miami has since built one of the nation’s great athletics programs, one that has won 21 team national championships and 82 individual national championships. UM currently fields teams in 18 sports as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which Miami joined in 2004 after 13 years in the BIG EAST Conference.
